ABOUT US
The RLPA is a professional organization that provides those working in retail loss prevention networking opportunities, a forum to share case evidence, and to gain insight on loss prevention issues facing retail companies. While RLPA is its own, separate organization, NCRMA acts as RLPA’s administrator. The vast majority of RLPA members are also NCRMA members.
2008-2009 Officers:
President - Scott St. Clair, Belk
Vice President - Harold Hodnett, Kerr Drug
1st Vice President - Tim Shipman, Food Lion
Treasurer - Dave Collins, Sterling Jewelers
Secretary - Dennis Havens, Wal-Mart
Administrator - Kristin Hicks, NCRMA
MEETING LAYOUT
RLPA currently meets quarterly at NCRMA’s headquarters*. The members represent companies from all sectors of retail including grocery, pharmacy, home improvement, apparel, jewelry, variety and mass merchants. The membership is diverse with company vice-presidents, directors, regional supervisors, auditors and investigators.
- This first portion is a presentation on a featured loss prevention topic that can be transferable to attendees’ careers and to their respective company’s operations. Some topics that have been presented over the year include Retail Safety, Charlotte Retail Crime Task Force, and Checkpoint RFID. These topics and many more are presented by RLPA members, law enforcement, vendors and other state agencies.
- The second portion of the meeting discusses the latest in legislation and regulatory actions as they affect loss prevention. This portion allows loss prevention professionals to inform the group of any recent trends, technology or information that may be of interest to other members.
- The final portion of the meeting is dedicated to information sharing amongst the various retail companies as many criminals prey on more than one company or sector of retail. This exchange is beneficial in that it provides “missing links” to companies that attend, by helping them close their case files. Everything from actual counterfeit checks, fraudulent credit card numbers, photos, digital video and interview statements are all exchanged in an effort to work together to get criminals.
COMMITTEE OPPORTUNITIES
RLPA provides leadership opportunities for retail loss prevention professionals. There are several committees on which members can choose to serve and there are also officer positions to which members may be elected. RLPA provides its members opportunities to grow as leaders in Loss Prevention and the association creates an environment where employees take ownership in improving themselves in their profession.
*Raleigh meetings are held at the NCRMA headquarters at 601 St. Mary's Street, Raleigh, NC 27605 unless otherwise notified.
